Welcome

Welcome to TheFreyers.net. This site has been dedicated to various technical, business, and personal pursuits since 1997. Its structure has evolved from hand-crafted pages (1995) to computer-generated HTML (1999) to a PHP-based forum (2001) to a blogging tool (2005) and most recently to a wiki (mid 2007).

This site is based on a wiki, but editing is restricted to authorized users. This is because the signal-to-noise ratio is too low to make an open wiki worthwhile. If you'd like to post, please contact me for an ID. I'm happy to give you one as long as you agree to be a decent human being and stick to the topics at hand. :-)

Technology

MythTV has the ability to manage live TV, DVDs, and CDs, play games, show the weather, browse the web, and more. It has been been an amazing project to work on.

Asterisk is a great telephony project. It enables voice communication over the internet. I've worked with Sangoma'sA104D quad-T1/E1/J1 cards, and with a few SIP softphones like SJLabs' SJPhone and CounterPath's XLite.

nslu2.jpg The NSLU2 is a network-attached storage unit from Linksys. By itself, its a quiet little device. But when the SlugOS is applied, an infinite array of possibilities arise..such as the ability to run Asterisk or make a streaming media server. All that power for under $100 USD.

The Linux page is a catch-all for various things related to Linux/Unix/BSD.

apple-logo.jpg Ah…Apple. Simple, chic, unix-based, better software, intuitive, no viruses, more reliable, kid-friendly, and quiet. What more could anyone want in a computer? Its what the other computer company is trying to be. :-)
